Video Recording Set Up

This page will help you set up to start recording for platforms like YouTube.   If you have no idea where to start, this will be a good place!

This is a basic guide.  Drop us an email if we can help you further.

Where Do I Start?

There is no hard and fast equipment that should be used here.  This depends on what is best for you.  Some people will want a full DSLR studio setup with no expense spared while others will value  ease of use over everything else.

The most obvious bit of equipment will be your mobile phone.  Phones like the iPhone and android devices have stunning cameras and can do the job perfectly.  The current iPhone has some amazing technology in it to make videos look amazing.   Below is an overview of what you will need.

  • Recording device

  • Lights

  • Microphones

  • Tripods

  • Power (Yes this gets overlooked)

Setting up for filming

This is possibly the most daunting part when you first start out.   How do you do it?   It's actually not that difficult and once you have done it a few times this will become easier and easier to the point when you can walk into your ‘studio’ and press record and get a video done.

Think about your background, is it attractive but not distracting to the viewer?   Don't shoot into a window, this will play havoc with your recording.   Think about the position of your lights, are they making you look your best.  Oh and give some thought to sound!

What to film

Obviously this is dependent on you.  What is your message, what is your story, what is your brand?  Think about creating captivating, shareable stories that will help grow your channel.   The longer people watch of your video the better, so give thought to the duration 4-5 minutes is a good start.   Simple story telling is key

Editing

This is where your videos take shape and comes alive.   Where you have total control of pace and look and graphics and music.   This is where it get a little more tricky as you need to learn new pieces of software.   There are options.

  • You can learn edit software on your mac or PC

  • You can use an app (which will make it easier but limited to what you can do)

  • Hire somebody to do the post work for you so you can concentrate on your business and planning new content

You can add music to fit your mood and style, graphics and text to explain your message and build a brand around your videos.
